Simon takes on the Coventry Half

Coventry Half Marathon 2021 · 31 October 2021 ·
I’m Simon, a Consultant in Renal Medicine and have been working at University Hospital Coventry as part of the Transplant and Dialysis Team for over 20 years.
I’m taking part in the Coventry Half Marathon on 5th April to raise money for the Transplant Games which are taking place in Coventry this year!
Myself (amongst others) are looking to raise £25,000 to support a Coventry & Warwickshire team to take part in this year’s Transplant Games in Coventry.
Furthermore we will be celebrating COxNet which is the Coventry and Oxford transplant network alliance that started in 2018.
This alliance between 2 transplant centres; University Hospital Coventry and University Oxford Hospital, has meant that we have been able to successfully increase the number of kidney transplants performed in both centres. The success of this alliance has encouraged other transplant centres to join forces to ensure that as many organ donations as possible are successfully transplanted.
Organ donation is an amazingly generous act and saves thousands of lives in the UK every year. This year the law will be changing so that consent for organ donation is presumed which means that, healthy organs will be donated and used where needed unless otherwise stated. The law is being changed to help save and improve more lives. Every day across the UK, someone dies whilst waiting for a transplant.
The presence of a Coventry & Warwickshire team at the British Transplant Games will mean that we can raise great awareness of these incredible advances that are taking place both locally and nationally.
