Story

I am planning a 170 mile ride on 30 April - 1 May. I would welcome any support either practical (e.g. company for part of the ride, route advice, suggestions for a cafe on the Ipswich / Trimley / Woodbridge part of the route for Sunday breakfast ...) or for the Mission to Seafarers.

The route: Through all the parishes where my Dad was priest. These lie in an almost straight line from Lincoln to Orford (Suffolk). The route is https://connect.garmin.com/modern/course/11423949 (subject to revision).

The charity: Mission To Seafarers (missiontoseafarers.org). My Dad worked with them when rector of Trimley then at Orford.

The bike: I hope to ride my Dad's old lightweight bike bought in Lincoln in 1955. It's largely as he renovated it in the 90s, but I will probably swap pedals.

Timing: Leaving Lincoln about 4pm Saturday afternoon (to allow for getting there by train), riding through the night to arrive in Orford on Sunday morning.

Pace: I am aiming for a 20 km/h (12 mph) end-to-end average. This is an average speed of about 25 km/h (15 mph).

The parishes with very approximate distances in between (in ride order):

St Giles' Lincoln - 31 Miles - St Peter's Ropsley - 16 Miles - St Firmin's Thurlby - 109 miles via Peterborough and Ipswich - St Martin's and St Mary's Trimley - 2 miles - St Mary and St Martin's Kirton - 20 miles St Bartholomew's Orford).
