Running in memory of Dad

Simon Ormiston is raising money for Southern Hospice Group
In memory of Michael Ormiston
Compassionate care for the community. Southern Hospice Group is the charity for the three hospices our local communities know, love and support. Chestnut Tree House children's hospice near Arundel, Martlets in Hove and St Barnabas House in Worthing.

Story

In 2013, my dad died from lung cancer. The disease spread rapidly in October that year eating into his spine. That made sitting and lying down so uncomfortable he needed liquid morphine at regular intervals to dull the pain. As his situation worsened he asked if we could find a way to get him home so that his last few weeks and days could be spent with the family.

The amazing staff at the Martlets Hospice installed an orthopaedic bed and mattress at the house, that supported his shattered vertebrae and eased the constant pain he was in.

Without that bed, Dad would have had to stay in hospital. Instead, he passed away at home holding my Mum's hand as she prayed for him.

An orthopaedic bed and mattress are vital bits of equipment for terminally ill patients and their families and so this October I am running 100 miles to raise enough money to supply the Martlets Hospice with a brand new mattress.

100 miles didn't seem that big a total at first. But it is 3.22 miles every day or a 10-mile run every three days or a marathon every week for four weeks.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page and thank you for donating. Every penny will go to help someone who is dying have a little comfort and spend more time with the ones they love.
