Story

** Event Re-Scheduled from May2020 to May 2021, pending May 17th lockdown restriction change**

As many of you know, Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a condition which causes damage to the nerves in your brain and spinal cord. My mother has been living with MS for nearly 30 years, and as of May 2019, I too was diagnosed with the condition.

Seeing the strength and attitude Mum approaches everyday with, has been an inspiration to me. Having the amazing support of my wife, sister, mum and Snoops, I feel incredibly fortunate to be in a position where I am able to raise awareness and money for this condition and charity.

So why a 100km run? At the time of my diagnosis Mum passed on some words of wisdom that she was given during her own diagnosis.... 'If you planned on climbing Everest, do it sooner rather than later!' Whilst the Jurassic Coast is a far cry from Everest, the sentiment still runs true.

With Relapse Remitting MS your condition will remain stable, up to a point, then you will have a relapse from which you may recover fully, but likely your body will recover to a point, and that point will become your new 'normal', your body's base functionality yardstick if you will. So the new life's aim is to run, ski, swim, climb and enjoy today's position, because who knows what tomorrow will bring.

This challenge is also a way to encourage me to talk about MS, identify how everyone's MS is different and try to stop it from becoming the elephant in the room, ask me how I feel, ask what it's like, ask what drugs I'm on or what my symptoms are. Speaking out loud about all this is not my strong suit so I am using this as a platform to understand and acknowledge MS to myself and how it will be part of my family's life. But it won't define our lives, and with it we will aim to achieve some wonderful things, even if that's ice skating on a packed winters market ice rink in a wheelchair!
