Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My son James and I are riding our bikes from Land's End to John O'Groats in June 2013, planning to cover around 1000 miles in 10 days.  We saw this initially as just a physical challenge, but several of my friends suggested we should seek sponsorship for a charity that has helped us in the past.

A bit of research on JustGiving revealed that we could also combine this fund-raising with remembering someone who is no longer with us.  It then became obvious we should do it for Jane, my first wife and James' Mum, who passed away in 1998.

Jane and I found out about Hemihelp when we were looking for advice and information about hemiplegia.  Our daughter Katie was born with this condition, and we struggled to deal with this and her epilepsy in her early years.  Hemihelp ran conferences and put us in touch with other parents & children dealing with the condition, and this was very helpful and reassuring at that time.  Katie has grown up to be a very independent and confident young woman, and this is in no small part due to the charities and voluntary organisations that helped her through her childhood.  And James is the one person I would trust to get me through our epic ride together, as he is as strong as an ox and knows a lot about bikes!

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity. So it’s the most efficient way to donate – saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Thank you for any donations you wish to make, and we'll do our best to make it to Scotland in one piece!

kind regards,

Simon W.
