Simon's IRONMAN challenge

IRONMAN Zurich 2014 · 27 July 2014
After half a lifetime of sedentary behaviour and showing blatant disregard for each and every one of my vital bodily organs I decided in early 2012 that some fairly drastic action was required. Inspired by the Olympics and a desire to prove to myself that you can achieve the seemingly impossible if you really put your mind to it I secretly began planning my assault on the Ironman challenge.
With a target time of 12 hours I am hoping to complete a 2.4 mile (3.86 km) swim, a 112 mile (180.25 km) bike ride and a marathon 26.2 mile (42.2 km) run, raced in that order and without a break.
Over the past 39 years I believe I have only ever swum further once, cycled further three times and I've only run a marathon once. I've never done all of these events within 1 week, let alone back to back on the same day.
So therein lies the challenge and please rest assured that each and every pledge means a great deal to me and reinforces my motivation to reach the finishing line within the 12 hour target.
