Story
Thank you for visiting this page and supporting me in a cause that is close to my heart.
Elephant Family was started by one of the world’s most charismatic adventurers, the late and very great, Mark Shand. This man inspired an army of people to get behind his mission to save Asia’s last remaining elephants. I am now part of this mission and this year I am following in his footsteps and undertaking a journey on an eccentric mode of transport, to raise funds and awareness for the elephants.
It is so hard to believe that within our lifetime the largest and most magnificent species on the planet may cease to exist. And when the elephant goes, so do tigers, rhinos and orangutans that exist with them. The good news is that we are not doomed, but the reality is we're not in the clear.
Like so many animals, Asia’s last remaining elephants are becoming homeless as their forest homes are turned into mines, villages and high speed train lines.
The reason I am supporting Elephant Family is because they have a proven solution to this problem, in the form of elephant corridors, which reconnect the forest fragments back together again and enable elephants and all the other animals, to move safely from one patch to the next without coming into conflict with human beings. Your donation will directly support the corridor projects across India.
So, in a few weeks, I will be setting off for India to take on a journey of 500km through the blazing hot deserts and crowded streets of Rajasthan. Along the way we will encounter cars, jeeps, trucks, motorcycles, scooters, tractors, tuk tuks, bicycles, farmers, students, pedestrians, herders, cows, goats, dogs, sheep, camels, more cows, and even more goats.
Join us on our journey across India with Elephant Family. Any donation big or small, really will make a difference.
Love,
Simone
