After all the months of training I'm very proud to say that I have completed both of the events I was taking part in on behalf of the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation.  On 8th May I completed the Darlington Triathlon in a time of 1:37:03 and on 22nd May I crossed the line at the Edinburgh marathon in a time of 3:56:41.  Although both events were really tough (I can't quite put miles 21-24 of the marathon in to repeatable words!), I will definitely doing more of both this year. 

 

To all who have sponsored me so far - thank you so much for helping me to beat my target!  Your support and words of encouragement have really kept me going and the funds raised will make a big difference to those supported by the foundation.  If you're visiting my page for the first time then anything you're able to donate will be spent wisely and greatly appreciated.

 

The Bobby Robson Foundation was set up by the man himself.  Despite battling cancer for a fifth time, Sir Bobby still found the time and energy to set up this foundation that provides amazing support to those affected by this terrible disease here in the North East.

 

The Foundation also focuses on the early detection and treatment of cancer and the clinical trials of new drugs that will eventually beat it.  There has been considerable success in making anti-cancer drugs, but there is still a long way to go before many of the common forms of the disease can be readily treatable. The Foundation helps experts within the NHS, in collaboration with scientists at Newcastle University, to develop these new treatments.

 

Your donation will be used to continue the fantastic work of the Foundation - so far it has equipped the Sir Bobby Robson Cancer Trials Research Centre at the Northern Centre for Cancer Care, Freeman Hospital in Newcastle. It has also funded two specialist research posts, a doctor and a nurse.
