I have never been much of an activist or champion of social causes, but a few months ago I felt inspired to do something - anything - in recognition of the life afforded to my sister and I by our amazing parents. We moved to Canada in search of safety, security and a world-class education, a decision that has led to extensive travel opportunities, a great career and a life generally removed from all the ugliness plaguing large parts of the developing world. Through CMS, I am participating in a 21km ski half-marathon (part of the 48th Engadin Skimarathon) on March 13, 2016. As anyone who knows me can attest, I hate the cold, have never skied or done any sort of marathon in my life, making this a significant challenge! But I am determined and with your help, hope to raise $1,000 for War Child, a charity that provided 98,549 children and their communities with direct, life changing support last year – not bad when you consider that the entire operation is run by a small team of 35 (with an average spend on admin/overhead of 9p per £1 donated!).
