We urgently need your support at this time to save lives of disabled people & carers

Story

My sister, Kate Coffey lives in Vancouver and has volunteered at SIRC last year.  It is a charity she holds close to her heart.  The joy of being part of a large Irish family, both sides of the world can be covered to optimise fundraising!  This site is linked to a UK charity who support SIRC with UK-based funding.

I am based in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, UK and I will be setting up fundraiser events however please donate regardless of these events.

Livability is the UK's largest Christian disability charity, and works to bring life to local communities. We support disabled people overseas through Livability International.

Hundreds of survivors of the Nepal earthquake have severe injuries & disabilities. Livability and our partner organisation, the Spinal Injury Rehabilitation Centre (SIRC) are responding to the immediate needs of those injured and paralysed as a result of the earthquake. Please help by donating now.  SIRC is 20 miles from Kathmandu and only 5 miles from Nepal's ancient city of Bhaktapur where it is reported the scenes of devastation from the earthquake are unimaginable.

Beneficiaries

Disabled people, particularly those with spinal injuries, in Nepal. This project will help provide resources for people who have acquired disabilities following the impact of the recent earthquake.

We urgently need to fund and treat high numbers of patients who will be coming from far and wide with nothing.

Need

The devastating earthquake in Nepal has impacted on the lives of thousands of people in the area. Collapsed buildings have resulted in men, women and children surviving but with severe injuries, and many will be permanently disabled as a result; and life for disabled people in the area will be even more challenging. For those who do survive but with severe spinal injuries, urgent specialist care will be critical, followed by rehabilitation support to regain skills or adapt to their condition.

Solution

By supporting Livability, immediate help to earthquake survivors can be given by SIRC. This includes food and shelter, basic medical supplies, medicine, catheters, splints and mobility aids. The project will help enable SIRC to expand and double their bed capacity immediately to provide urgent treatment and rehabilitation to newly injured spinal patients. Livability needs your help now to support SIRC to deal with the overwhelming demands that it will face in the days, weeks and months ahead.
