Story
Singing for Breathing has been offered to patients with respiratory conditions at Charing Cross hospital since 2016. Led by professional singing tutor and choir leader Cecilia Forssberg, and supported by integrated community respiratory services, the weekly sessions help to support better posture, breath support and control through singing.
For people living with long-term lung conditions, such as asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, the regular Singing for Breathing sessions can have a transformative effect on their quality of life. The group meet fortnightly to practice diaphragmatic breathing techniques through singing a range of popular and much-loved songs. As described by one choir member, ‘Singing for Breathing can be classed as the greatest of therapies, as the sheer fun and enjoyment we experience through singing is second to none. It is a wonderful social activity potentially leading to new opportunities and reducing the sense of isolation breathing problems can induce.’
Your donation could help us maintain our support for these popular singing classes, providing extra assistance for patients with chronic lung conditions. We would be very grateful for any donations you are able to make to support the group.
Thank you for your support!
