Story

Our first concernt - Singing for Sarcoma, that was held on 14th January 2012.  The concert was a huge success with all the musicians and singers giving their time for free to perform. It was an inspiring evening made possible because of Pat's determination to build awareness for Sarcoma UK. This year our concert is being held on Saturday April 20th, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints, 2-4 Ashen Vale, Selsdon. If you wish to donate money or pay for tickets you can do so via this site. Pat also has another funding raising page - www.justgiving.com/Ashley-Talbot. Ashley is running the London Marathon 2013 on behalf of Sarcoma UK.  Thanks for your support!

Pat's story

My story begins in the Spring of 2010 when I could not breathe properly through my left nostril.  I visited my GP who prescribed a nasal spray believing it to be a polyp in my nose.  After visiting his Surgery for two or three times he eventually referred me to the ENT department at our local hospital.

In the Autumn of 2010 my nose would bleed for two to three hours quite regularly which caused me to go into A & E on numerous occasions.  After doing a biopsy I then knew that the bleeding was coming from a tumour which was diagnosed as angiosarcoma in the blood vessels in my nose.

After several visits to a Consultant at Guys Hospital, in February 2011, I underwent a sixteen hour operation to remove the tumour and to put a skin flap on my face.  The tissue for my face and palette, together with veins and arteries, were taken from my right thigh.

In June 2011 I underwent nine sessions of Chemotherapy, followed by six weeks of daily Radiotherapy at UCLH near Euston.

It has been a long journey to get this far with many ups and downs.   I often felt isolated and alone.  I had never met nor spoken to anyone else with Sarcoma nor had I spoken to another carer of a Sarcoma patient.

I now know that I am not on my own and can find support through SARCOMA UK.  As a Sarcoma patient I can talk to other Sarcoma patients all over the country by email. I love music and singing and wanted to do something to help the work of Sarcoma UK continue. I hope that this concert will be a great success and will help to raise awarenss of sarcoma.
