I've started swimming regularly during the same week that my second grand-daughter Tilly, Natalia, was conceived. So now Tilly is one, and I am prancing about in my wet suit trying to raise some dosh for the British Red Cross. Don't know how much you know about them, but their work has been incredible since the International Red Cross was founded in 1859. 

As a historian (of mathematics), their work is close to my interests as they made a positive contribution to the lives of many people who found themselves in various wars and dissasters ever since 1859, which is the century I am most interested in.

And as someone who has come from a war torn country, in which Red Cross played a crucial role in helping families and individuals on all sides of the conflict, it is also close to my heart. I think it's time to help them help someone else.
