Story
I first came across this charity as a brand new journalist with the very sad task of speaking to a family who'd lost their daughter far too young. She wasn't running or exercising but an undiagnosed and undetected heart condition meant she dropped dead very suddenly one day at 22, at home with her family around her.
Cardiac Risk in the Young offers people a service that comes as standard in many other countries across the world - they give your heart an MOT basically. A screening just to check it's ok. Sounds simple doesn't it? Hopefully it will be standard over here in the near future. As it is about 12 young people die every week in the UK from an undiagnosed heart condition.
If you want a screening, or know someone who should have one they run regular free drop ins at hospitals.. find out more info here.http://www.c-r-y.org.uk/
Since its formation in 1995, Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) has been working to reduce the frequency of young sudden cardiac death (YSCD). CRY supports young people diagnosed with potentially life-threatening cardiac conditions and offers bereavement support to families affected by YSCD. CRY promotes and develops heart screening programmes and funds medical research. CRY publishes and distributes medical information written by leading cardiologists for the general public. CRY funds fast track referral, screening and cardiac pathology services at leading UK hospitals.
