The London Triathlon 2015 · 8 August 2015 to 9 August 2015 ·

At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

On 8 August, I will be taking part in the London Triathlon in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society.

Living in London has meant that December 2014 was the first time I saw my grandmother since she was properly diagnosed with dementia. The experience was truly testing and upsetting in many ways. I have always been close to my Nenek (NB: this means grandmother in Malay) and upon my return to London in January this year, I decided that I wanted to do something positive to help other dementia sufferers and, as a result of momentary lapse in judgement (mainly because I hate the outdoors), signed up for the triathlon!

Nenek was and is in many ways a very strong willed and independent woman and seeing her debilitated by this disease really opened my eyes to the care and support dementia sufferers require. My parents, nanny, uncles and aunts, being her primary caretakers, are doing every thing they can to ensure that Nenek is happy at all times but are, unsurprisingly, under a lot of pressure and could use with the support that the Alzheimer’s Society gives to patients here in England (which unfortunately isn’t as forthcoming in Malaysia). The Alzheimer’s Society provides information and support to people with any form of dementia and their carers through their publications, National Dementia Helpline, website, and more than 2,000 local services. They campaign for better quality of life for people with dementia and greater understanding of dementia. They also fund an innovative programme of medical and social research into the cause, cure and prevention of dementia and the care people receive.

Any donation, no matter how small, will help them continue making a worthwhile difference to the lives of people living with the condition. Thank you for visiting my page and for any donation you are able to give.
