Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Handicap international is a charity working with and for disabled people globally (including in Latin america) and is especially close to our heart: Gary has first hand experienced what positive impact rehabilitation can make and Sonja has worked repeatedly in Latin america.

We'd like to thank everybody for the kind thought of getting us a toaster or kettle....however our household is pretty well equipped and your donations will instead make a huge difference towards helping the rehabilitation of young people injured by land mines in Colombia.

We'd like to specifically support projects in Colombia as between 1990 and 2013 more than 10.000 people were killed or maimed by land mines  -the second highest rate in the world. More than a thousand of those victims were children.

Please take some time to visit the following page for more detailed information on what your donation will achieve.

We will also update this page further over the coming weeks.

Thank you very much for your donations to handicap international!

Supporting landmine victims

Goal: To support the victims of landmine accidents to access the services they need to rebuild their lives. The project aims to promote better access to medical and psychological care and to ensure victims are fully involved at every stage of the process.
Beneficiaries: The victims of landmine accidents and their communities in 10 of the country's 32 departments.

Physical rehabilitation

Goal: To improve the quality and accessibility of rehabilitation care for people with disabilities, especially for children and young people. We do this by providing personalised support to people with disabilities and specialist training to rehabilitation staff in Nariño and Cauca . At a national level, we use our expertise in this area to promote national rehabilitation policies.
Beneficiaries: People with disabilities and their families, medical students and public workers.
