Several months ago the Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths announced a fundraising idea - on Friday 9th November people should make staying in the new going out and invite friends around for a fun night in, raising money for the charity along the way.

We decided instead to have an early night and the next day have friends and their family around for a fun day, allowing us to all play like children and raise money for this fantastic charity at the same time.

So on Saturday 10th November we are holding a family fun day with games, fancy dress and food.

The Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths is the UK's leading baby charity aimed at preventing unexpected deaths in infancy, promoting infant health, working with health professionals to help improve investigations when a child dies, and trying to help bereaved parents get an answer to the big question: "why did my baby die?"

They do this through publications, resources, training, funding research, running the Care Of Next Infact (CONI) scheme with the NHS, and running a helpline that is there for parents, carers and health professionals.

As a family we have benefited from the FSID's help, both in information after Sophia died and through their Family Day Out events, allowing bereaved families to meet other bereaved families and enjoy a day out in memory of their loved ones. We have already discussed the CONI scheme with them and will continue to utilise their services.

With this in mind we wanted to help them just a little bit more - a brief timeline of the charity's history can be found here and is worth a read. Even if you haven't been directly affected by cot death you may find that they have indirectly helped you through a campaign you know about!
