5 Mile Community Sponsored Walk · 23 June 2013 ·

Providing practical life affirming resources for people with the blood cancer Multiple Myeloma, their families and carers.

Story

My name is Sophia Skyers. Basil Skyers, my brother, died in 2010 age 49 of multiple myeloma, the second most common but least known of the blood cancers. The Basil Skyers Myeloma Foundation was set up in memory of my brother to provide financial and practical support for patients, their families and their carers.

Before my brother was diagnosed, we had never heard of this form of cancer. As it is little known, there is a huge vacuum in practical support for patients and we are trying to help fill this.

12 year old Evan Poole and Jak Bailey, volunteers with the Foundation are organising its first community sponsored walk on 23 June, starting at the Stage Hotel in Nottingham at 11.00am.  Evan and Jak are actively recruiting people for the walk and I am so happy that they have asked me to join their group.

Please support me in raising funds so that we can continue to provide resources for people with multiple myeloma and raise awareness about it.
