The Christie at Macclesfield brings cancer care closer to the local area

Story

In September 2019, my brother Jamie was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer called Osteosarcoma. What was initially thought to be a sports injury turned out to be a circa 10cm tumour in Jamie's left distal tibia.

Jamie began what has been described as 'the toughest chemotherapy regime' at the end of September and will within the next couple of months have a complicated operation to remove the tumour and surrounding bone. This may result in amputation and afterwards will continue having chemotherapy in the following months.

The news has been heartbreaking for my family and I, and it's safe to say that is has had a huge impact on all of our lives. However, Jamie is being treated at The Christie in Manchester which is one of Europe's leading cancer centres, treating over 44,000 patients every year and are beginning to build a second treatment centre in Macclesfield, Cheshire.

The Christie have been fantastic in supporting my brother so I have decided to run the Wilmslow half marathon in aid of the new Christie hospital in Macclesfield.

My family and I massively appreciate all the support received, thank you!
