York St John University Rowing Club have been planning a fundraising day on the River Ouse in order to raise money for Breast Cancer Awareness. The idea we have proposed is to have as many boats as possible on the river Ouse, rowing between Millennium and Scarborough bridges, wearing bras (over other clothing, of course!) and other bright and colourful clothing or fancydress. Those who are rowing in the boats will gain sponsorship from friends, family etc, whilst other club members place themselves on bridges and in the town centre to collect donations from the public and draw attention to the exciting activities on the river.

Whilst initially we had only planned for York St John’s Rowing Club to do this, we soon realised that if we could enlist the involvement of all the boat clubs on the river, the amount of money raised and the overall spectacle of the event would be much larger.  We also feel that it would be an ideal opportunity to show the people of York the impact and benefits that rowing brings to the city, as well as improving club relations and cooperation.

We would be looking to hold the event in either March or April next year, on a Saturday to maximise the potential audience. We would like to propose either of these dates:

March 6th
March 20th
April 3rd
April 10th

Please do not hesitate to email us with any questions, queries or ideas you might have and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

Kind Regards
