Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
To cut a long story short, here is the deal;
I will run the 10k run in Glasgow on the 2nd of September 2012. I only started running this June and I never used to run, so I thought that 10k in 50' would be a fair challenge. I will donate £50 anyway but, if I'm over 50', whatever total is donated, I promise to match up to a £500 :-)
And a bit of background... I never thought I was a runner, to the point where I would bluntly refuse running in the past. I went for my first run in June 2012 and managed a painful 3km in 24 minutes. But I went again, and again, and again. Two weeks later I was running 9km in 55 minutes and the improvement was phenomenal. 3 weeks later and I could hold the 5'/km pace for a whole 6km. So I reckon I can cope with a 10k race in under 50', and I entered the Great Scottish Run, taking place in Glasgow on the 2nd of September 2012.
My chosen Charity... many of you are familiar with the various Mountain Rescue Teams in Britain. They are all unpaid volunteers, locals, with excellent knowledge of the local mountains, who will drop whatever they're doing, any time of the day and go out there to help you if you ever end up needing them on the mountains. No matter the weather, no matter night or day, no matter Christmas, New Year, birthdays... I've never needed them and I hope I never will, but friends of mine have and I have great respect for the men and women in those teams.
To keep doing what they are doing, they need equipment, vehicles, training, fuel. That means money. They get that money through donations, and I would like to raise some money for them through a little challenge, involving my running. As I live in Aberdeen and I'm often out and about in the nearby hills and mountains, I chose the Braemar Mountain Rescue Team.
So please dig deep and donate now!
