Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Kaz and I are walking the Camino de la Plata which is over 1,000km (basically the length of Spain!) to raise money and awareness for the awesome charity Rett UK.
Imagine being told your toddler who you thought was healthy, but perhaps slow to progress, in fact had a rare and devastating disability that will begin to severely impair their motor skills and speach leaving them needing lifelong 24/7 care. Rett syndrome changes lives irrevocably. With your support Rett UK is there from the beginning.
My amazing niece Sophie was diagnosed with Rett Syndrome as a child and is now dependent on 24 hour Care for day to day tasks. Despite this she's a wonderful, smiley, happy young lady that absolutely loves doing her favourite things such as listening to music, being surrounded by family and going for days out. Although she can’t verbally communicate she tells us everything she wants to with her eyes and her smile. Rett UK are a fantastic charity who are self funded but wholly reliant on public donations. They help families such as Sophie's with advice, guidance and support when times are tough. Every step of the way her family has had so much support from Rett UK and they couldn’t have done any of it without the parent networks, access to health professionals and knowing that there’s other people out there that understand what they are going through. Sophie is surrounded by friends and family who love her very much and who all think she’s very special.
