Fundraising for Sporting Memories Leyland

Great North Run 2023 · 10 September 2023 ·
It has been 5 years since I last ran the Great North Run and after winning a ballot place for this year I decided quickly to raise funds for Sporting Memories Leyland Club. This Club and charity are special to me as my Uncle Steve Elliott and his wife Mags attended each week where the Club support people to reminiscence, replay and reconnect through the power of sport and physical activity.
Steve is a former professional footballer and is now living with dementia following being diagnosed with Head Trauma/Alzheimer's at the age of 59.
In my spare time I volunteer as an adult netball coach and I love seeing all of the ladies from all walks of life coming together to play a sport they love. They leave their family, work and love life troubles at the door and enjoy exercise in the fun way.
That’s how I feel Steve and his wife Mags feel about Sporting Memories. A place to have fun, exercise your body and mind as well as finding people in the same situations as you. They loved attending and have made lots of new friends.
I know sport can bring people together and how much sport plays in people’s lives, my son plays for 2 football teams so myself and my husband drive him around the North East to attend training and matches and we love it!!
Through my fundraising I hope to help the Club continue to grow and
support more people like my Uncle Steve.
