St George's Bonfire · 24 April 2010
The Sportsman Inn is hosting a St George's bonfire on Saturday the 24th of April. We are combining this with a Charity night for Help for Heroes.
Why are we having a bonfire?
No, its not just because we have a lot of wood to burn, honest!
Everybody likes a bonfire but normally you have to wait until the weather is getting a bit cold and nasty, why not have one when the weather hopefully will be a bit better.
Also over the years we have become quick to celebrate Burns Night and St Patrick's (nothing wrong with that), so why don't we celebrate our own St George's Day. Combine this with a charity night for our own modern day heroes and you have the perfect recipe for having a right good night out whilst raising funds for a very deserving charity.
Help for Heroes raises money for members of our Armed Forces who have been wounded in the service of our country.
We will not be charging entry for bonfire night but we will be going round with collecting tins! We will also be having a prize raffle and are currently looking for prize donations hint hint. We will be serving chip buttys, curry and rice, pie and peas and muffins on the night and all money taken from these will be donated to Help for Heroes. Also we will have a prize for the best in fancy dress.
Hopefully all this will make an excellent night out for everyone and assist us to our initial target of £1,000!
We will also be having a quiz on all things British which will be available from April the 9th costing £2 with a £20 first prize - ask at the bar for a copy or email me on darren.carney@talktalk.net.
All of us at The Sportsman are commited to raising as much cash for Help for Heroes as we can and we are now donating 20% of all tips to the charity.
Our prize raffle starts on the 24th of April with tickets at £1 a time. A minimum of 30 prizes will be available with details below. The raffle will be drawn on Friday May the 21st combined with a charity bingo night with famed bingo caller Ed 29 29. Many thanks to Pickles printers for providing the raffle tickets.
