Sprite is a stunning little lurcher boy who landed into our care on Saturday from the stray pound. Due to gross neglegence of whoever had him before he was found straying Sprite now needs expensive shoulder surgery to save his leg. Sprite has at somepoint had what would have been at the time if treated a simple shoulder dislocation, it would have needed popping back in and slinging up! His owners did not even give him that basic necessary veterinary treatment. Now Sprite is left with a severe cranial dislocation and the bone and ligaments have moved into the wrong position and muscle, tendons and ligaments have healed it into the wrong place meaning currently his leg is totally useless and he can not weight bare on it. He is currently with the orthopedic specialists at Nantwich who are about to carry out complex surgery to reposition the shoulder and position ligaments around it that will eventually hold it in place. Whilst the reposition fixes he will be fitted with a large A frame external fixator to hold everything in position. Sprite will need 4 weeks careful monitoring and resting but can not be contained in a crate as would be normal practice as the fixator is going to be big and in an awkward location. The cost of Sprites surgery and after care will be around £1600. He will receive the surgery regardless but this will put a dent in our reserves so we are attempting to raise some of the costs back.
