The Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association (IMNDA) is the only organisation of its kind in the country providing specialised services to families affected by this terminal condition. The Association cannot slow the progression of MND or change the outcome but we can alleviate the feelings of isolation and frustration. We offer consistent support to approximately 400 families across Ireland who otherwise would have nowhere else to turn. Everybody with MND has different needs at different stages of their journey and we are here to help and guide them every step of the way. The services provided by the IMNDA are immediate and free of charge for everyone registered with the Association. Key services include: • Access to 4 outreach nurses directly employed by the IMNDA and funded entirely by donations. • Access to a home care grant. • Access to specialised equipment on loan (e.g. wheelchairs, hoists, communication aids etc). • Access to funding towards counselling sessions for the person with MND and family members. Your support is absolutely vital. More than 86% of our income comes from fundraising and donations.

Story

On Monday May 18th 2020, we lost one of our beloved residents after a long battle with Motor Neurone disease. Mick Flynn held a special place in the hearts of so many, touching the lives of all those who knew him, including the staff and residents of St. Anthony’s nursing home in Pallasgreen, Co. Limerick. His motivation and determination to face each day with such courage and positivity was truly inspiring. Mick always had a story, a friendly smile and a thumbs up for those he met on a daily basis. He had such love for his family and grandchildren, a strong passion for all things St. Michael’s A.F.C, birds (the feathered type) and the odd tipple or two. In the few short months that Mick resided in our home, we got to know him and love him as one of our own. Mick’s passing cast great sadness over the staff and residents of St. Anthony’s but his legacy will live on. Rest In Peace Mick.

In tribute to Mick and with the kind permission of the Flynn family, our residents have taken on the challenge to walk a total of 30km over the month of June. All proceeds, no matter how small, will go directly to IMNDA to enable them to continue the amazing work they do for families and people living with Motor Neurone Disease in Ireland. Many thanks from us all here at St. Anthony’s.
