Story
I have set up this page because I am currently in receipt of care at St Michaels Hospice, having transferred from QE Hospital in Birmingham this week. I have discovered that the room I have been allocated is one linked to the fundraising activities that I, Elaine and many friends I have met via the Hospice Angels & Hospice Riders have sponsored. The hospice is fortunate enough to have two motorcycle groups who promote the work of the hospice, and raise much needed funds to support the delivery of care, of which I now need.
Elaine & I have used the Slingshot to raise funds at Hospice Riders events and this is something we wish to see continue. Many have been following my posts on Facebook and have said that they would like to donate to a charity of my choice... well this is it!! This page will enable you to show your support and donate any amount in recognition of my care, my life, and my memory.
The Hospice receives approximately 10% of its in-patient care costs from the NHS -- which means they need to raise in excess of £5 million every year. So they are reliant on the generosity of individuals like you & companies donating monies or supporting events, and their charity shops. For every £5 donated £4 goes directly towards the costs of providing the care & support they offer people like me and our families.
As I have said in my posts, I have no fear of dying, I have a beautiful wife, and my only regret is to leave her without me, but the knowledge of your care and support, and that the work of the hospice can continue, provides me with great comfort.
