Mini London Marathon · 22 April 2023

The RHN cares for people who have brain damage or a disease affecting their brain. People come to the RHN for many reasons, from a stroke to a traffic accident, or a disease. The RHN provides services and therapies to ensure people with neuro-disability can have the best quality of life possible.

Story

100 children from St George's Junior School in Weybridge are running the Mini London Marathon 22nd April 2023 for Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability.

On September 3rd 2022, a parent at St George's Junior School, Tom Lennon, suffered an aortic dissection and consequently a stroke. He had open- heart surgery that day at Harefield Hospital, was placed on life support and heart and lung bypass. His family were told he was unlikely to make it through the night. However, he did and he's continued to defy expectations ever since. He was taken off heart and lung bypass after one week and after a few weeks they took him off sedation. Initially he didn’t wake and his family were once again told the worst and that he was unlikely to ever wake up, but Tom being Tom started to wake and talk, one of the first things he said were the names of his children Lottie and Teddy. He has come so far but has a long long way to go. He is now at Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability undergoing intensive rehab. He needs to learn to move and walk again as well as many cognitive functions. His wife Katy and two children have been there every step of the way and wanted to do something to support RHN for all their fabulous work and with the help of St George’s Junior School and all their school friends they hope to raise some much needed funds.

Supporting the RHN makes a real difference to people who experience disability as a result of a brain injury. Without your donations they simply cannot provide the services that enhance the quality of life for their patients and their families.
