Hi guys!
In 2014, Harrison Short and I volunteered for 3 months at Mvumi Secondary School, in Dodoma, Tanzania, as teachers. We want to help to support our old students, colleagues, and the wider Mvumi community by running half marathons and gathering donations over the next few months for 'Mvumi FM.'
One of the teachers we worked with, Iddi Omary, who works with the visually impaired students, is now starting a radio station in Mvumi, called Mvumi FM. He wants to use this to further educate the Mvumi community, and the surrounding areas, about issues such as social inclusion, health and conflict resolution. He also wants the radio station to be able to provide work experience and employment for the visually impaired students of Tanzania, as he recognises that this area of expertise is perfect for their skills. One of the key slogans of his station will be, "Disability is not Inability."
So far, for his radio station, he has already purchased:
- Allen & Heath XB14-2 Compact Broadcasting Mixer
- Audio Technica BP40 (03 Microphones)
- Audio Technica ATHM30 (03 Headphones)
- Microphone Boom Arm Scissor stand plus XLR cables.
- AT8484 Microphone Shock Mount
This is being made possible by fundraising, donations and assistance through the Mvumi School Trust, and others, as well as from Iddi's personal savings. But he needs lots more help to reach his goal, and so this is why we'd love you to donate. Iddi estimates that his start up costs are approximately 42 million Tanzanian shillings (USD 18,560/GBP 14, 770) for equipment purchase, registration and accommodation for Mvumi FM.
Iddi is also looking for advice, expertise and equipment, so please contact him on iddiomyd2005@yahoo.com, if you have any other ideas or would like more in depth info about Mvumi FM. Thanks heaps, and please let either of us know if you'd like any more information, or can help in any other way!
