Stephanie's Altitude 4,810m: Summiting Mont Blanc

Altitude 4,810: Summiting Mont Blanc · 20 July 2018
Two weeks ago I summited Mont Blanc (4,810m), the Alps’ highest summit, also ranked 11th in terms of topographic prominence. It’s the highest peak in Europe if you consider Russia’s Mount Elbrus to be in Asia!
5 words really summarised my climb: Humility, Perseverance, Focus, Teamwork and Challenge; and I would like disadvantaged and disabled children across the UK to one day also have the chance to admire the view from the very top of Europe.
Before the climb, I told myself I wanted to support an association that could offer young disadvantaged and disabled children across the UK this kind of opportunity. For this reason, I am now raising £4,810 for Access Sport.
I’m very proud and happy I managed to summit the deadliest mountain in the Alps despite very little time to prep myself besides a short ski touring expedition in Greenland in April and a couple of acclimatisation days in the run up to the climb… And still, we ended up summiting in under 4 hours (we’re the 7th fastest women according to the Strava app!); summiting at 6:35am; leaving us enough time and energy for the 2,000m+ descent; and ensuring we were through the technical rocky and deadly terrain through Gouter Grand Couloir, before the sun reached it.
