The Running Charity (http://www.therunningcharity.org/) and I believe that running is as good for your mind as it is for your body. Running builds resilience and self-esteem, and my chosen charity uses this to improve the lives of 16-25 year-olds in the UK who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Homelessness can happen at any time and to anyone. And when it happens to a young person it can affect them for the rest of their life.
The charity joins with these homeless young people and gets them into running to improve their fitness and instil a goal-setting mentality that are key tools in helping these vulnerable young people to build healthy, sustainable futures.
Come on now ... you know that's worth it! Dig deep and donate what you can. Everything is appreciated and it genuinely helps me get around the course by thinking about those we are helping. At mile 18 or so, when you hit the wall, your legs go, your body is screaming to stop, then be assured that your kind donation will get me round the final few miles.
If you want to see an inspirational film about a similar scheme in the USA, check out Skid Row Marathon (Here's a clip: https://vimeo.com/317162644). I guarantee you will cry, be inspired and maybe even take up running.
Thank you!
