Johnson's Lockdown Marathon · 5 January 2021

Congo Children Trust works with the Kimbilio project in Lubumbashi, DRCongo to provide street children with access to food, shelter, education, health care & training through our day centre, four homes & primary school. The ultimate aim: reconnection with their families, communities & society.

Story

So, as a family we are planning to walk a marathon over Lockdown3 on our daily walks. We are doing this because the girls do miss school, but realise that not everyone has a school to go to.

As we walk each day we want to help raise money to finish building and help equip the Kimbilio primary school in Lubumbashi, DRC. Steve is a trustee of Congo Children Trust and has visited the project twice over the years, the last being in 2019 for the 10th Anniversary of the project and to be there for the laying of the foundation stone for the primary school.

About Congo Children Trust

Congo Children Trust supports the Kimbilio project in Lubumbashi, DRCongo. Kimbilio provides street children with access to food and shelter, education and training. The ultimate aim being reconnection with their families and reintegration into society. Kimbilio is also supported by CMS and works alongside the Anglican Church in Congo.

You can help CCT empower street children through education by helping us to build a Kimbilio primary school. Street connected children have little or no access to education, especially if they are a girl. As we walk over Lockdown we hope to help provide an inclusive school for these marginalized girls and boys, where we strengthen community cohesion by educating them alongside local children. Education will enable the children to transform their futures.

The school will care for 180 children, with 6 teachers and a support staff. Alongside this we envision that the school will affect the families and surrounding community in such a way that approximately 1400 people will see the benefits on this project each year. This project will not only help equality in education but improve community cohesion and the acceptance of the often stigmatized former street children.
