Medair is a Christian humanitarian organisation responding to conflict, disease and disasters to bring relief where it is needed most by the world's most vulnerable and hard-to-reach people and to save lives and bring hope to them.

Story

You will have seen the stories of the Ebola outbreak in West Africa. Medair has responded with a project to improve access to treatment in isolation facilities for those suffering from Ebola in Kontorlah near the capital of Sierra Leone, Freetown.

The project also includes social mobilisation in the community so that suspected cases of Ebola can be reported early; effective contact tracing enabling those exposed to Ebola to be properly monitored and quarantined if needed, and psychosocial support for families devastated by this epidemic.

And so I'm looking for 160 people to "support me" through 80 miles of the the English countryside, that's one person for each half mile.

The prospect of being cold on one February morning is nothing compared to what the people of Sierra Leone face each day. Could you be one of these people and help me to raise funds for Medair’s work sponsoring me for £27 to ride half a mile? Your £27 will provide an infection prevention and control kit for a family in Kontorlah, just outside Freetown.

Each family kit contains a bucket, rubber gloves, bleach, oral rehydration salts, and clean drinking water to enable interim care of symptomatic household members while waiting for the arrival of help.

I've paid £33 to ride in the "No Excuses Sportive" and as well as riding 80 miles I am going to donate my entry fee to MedAir's Ebola response work.

If 160 people sponsor me for half a mile, and I throw in my £33, then I’ll hit my target of £4,353. That will mean 161 families will have a far greater chance of avoiding the devastation of Ebola.
