Over recent years the issues of loneliness and isolation amongst older and younger people in our rapidly changing cities have become better understood.
Loneliness has been shown to be as bad for people's health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day, and can bring on strokes, heart attacks and dementia. Two in five older people say the TV is their main form of company. 17% see friends of family less than once a week; 11% less than once a month. And one in ten GP appointments is made by an older person with no other condition than that they're lonely.
North London Cares seeks to address this modern blight of disconnection in our capital by harnessing the people and places around us for the benefit of all.
The money I raise will support North London Cares activities, enabling older and younger people across Camden and Islington to stay connected, reducing feelings of social isolation. As we move out of the pandemic, North London Cares will continue to offer a mixture of remote and in person programmes, ensuring their activities are accessible as possible.
For their Social Clubs, they will not only run face to face activities in small groups, but also continue to offer the opportunity to connect via Zoom, as well as via phone. Through their Love Your Neighbour programme, individuals unable to connect in-person will continue to be engaged remotely, on the phone, while those who would like to meet safely in-person can enjoy face to face connection for the first time in months. For their Outreach programme, they will continue to work with their 230 community partners to reach the most isolated in their community; offering social connections as well as technological support.
The money raised via this page, will help support over 2,000 older and younger neighbours who are connected to the charity.
Thank you,
Steve
