Story
I am taking on the Hope Against Cancer Wild Atlantic Cycling Challenge, so please sponsor me !
We are taking on 4 days of cycling on one the most difficult 350 mile cycling routes you could imagine with over 16000 ft of climbing.
It will be very tough and I will have very sore legs at the end but it is worth it to raise much needed funds for this amazing local charity and for the people they support in Leicestershire and Rutland
Hope Against Cancer is Leicestershire and Rutland’s only cancer research charity. The grants we give to cancer research
projects keep Leicestershire at the forefront of oncology study.
We have funded the expansion of a dedicated Hope Cancer Trials Centre at the Leicester Royal Infirmary, where patients with cancer are treated with the most cutting-edge technologies, which can help to prolong or save their lives. We also fund a specially trained Hope nurse who ensures that patients are kept informed and are well looked after on our trials. Many families have had experiences of our care and expertise, like Sinead whose mum Sharon “got her life back” after being successfully treated on a Hope funded trial and Susan Smith who told us that “Hope Against Cancer gave my family an extra year
with my husband Sean after he was diagnosed with cancer. Without their work and without their care, we would not have been able to have that precious time together.”
Our work doesn’t just affect those on trials now, but is also
vital for continued improvements to standard of care and developing new prevention methods, to benefit the 50% of people who will get cancer in their lifetime.Our positive impact is life changing for families, and game changing for worldwide scientific understanding.
As a collective, we are aiming for this cycle challenge to raise
over £80,000 which will be spent on expanding Leicester’s research capabilities
and expertise to deliver innovative, cutting-edge experimental research to
transform outcomes for patients with or at risk of cancer.
