The ride starts at Whitehaven in the Lakes on Thursday 18th April and finishes in Sunderland on Saturday 20th April totalling 135 miles. We stop at B&B along the way travelling approx 50:50:35 miles each day. Second day is apparently hardest with lots of hills.

Why Derbyshire Voice?

 

Derbyshire Voice is a charity that provides an important service to people with lived experience of mental health problems. It is independent to statutory services and gets it income through a number of sources. I am keen to support is charity because it works alongside our Trust to help people regain their confidence and make positive choices about their recovery. importantly Derbyshire Voice holds the Trust to account directly on the feedback service receivers give them and the improvements we make in response. 

 

Why am I doing the ride?

 

Good physical health is a vital component of all our lives and especially so if you experience poor mental illness or serious mental disorder. For example someone with a diagnosis of schizophrenia is at risk of dying between 16-20 years sooner than a person without these experiences. It is important that we remain attentive to these health inequalities. I'm riding with my family and hope to use this opportunity to highlight both the importance of physical health and fun activity as well as recognise and support the work of Derbyshire Voice.
