COMBAT STRESS The Ex-Services Mental Health Welfare Society is the UK’s leading military charity specialising in the care of Veterans’ mental health. Since it was set up in 1919, Combat Stress has provided a unique lifeline to Veterans suffering psychological injuries as a result of their military service. The charity currently has over 4,800 Veterans in it’s care, the youngest is just 20yrs old. To date, Combat Stress has supported almost 100,000 ex-Service men & women in coping with the mental impact of warfare. www.combatstress.org.uk
Peter & Taffy first met when they both moved into wardened sheltered housing in Haverfordwest. Peter has in the past been a very active and keen walker raising funds for a number of charities and organisations having previously completed the 186miles of the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path, along with the Pennine Way & various other sponsored walk routes.
Steve (Taffy) is a former Army Paramedic injured in Northern Ireland in 1982. He is both physically and mentally disabled, having been diagnosed with “Combat PTSD” (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) since he survived a terrorist attack on a pub in Northern Ireland, which resulted in the deaths of 11 of his Army comrades and 6 civilians. Since 2005 Taffy has been a client of Combat Stress where he and other Veterans receive help for their psychological injuries as victims of Combat PTSD.
Chris & Peter met when Peter moved to Haverfordwest instantly striking up a good friendship as they are both experienced walkers. Even though Chris, who is a Branch Manager for a local “Betfred” Bookmakers is only 25yrs old, he’s gained considerable walking experience having completed the Inca Trail in Peru as one of his many walks he’s undertaken. As a relative youngster Chris appreciates and understands the valuable work that Combat Stress do, as his grandfather was a decorated WWII Veteran, and as such Chris has witnessed the impact war has had on his own family.
The three friends aim to raise as much funds as they can for Combat Stress (Reg Charity No 206002 England & Wales, Reg No SC 038828 Scotland.) And are therefore seeking sponsorship and donations from individuals, the public & corporate sectors.
MAY I THANK YOU ALL IN ANTICIPATION OF YR HELP AND SUPPORT WITH OUR SPONSORED WALK. THANK YOU FROM STEVE "TAFFY" HORVATH
