This is a charity very close to our hearts and would ask you to take a few minutes to look at their website. Group Strep B or GBS is an infection that over 25% of women carry. It is normally harmless, however, it can be passed to newborn babies around childbirth, and in babies which then develop GBS infection, it can be very serious. It can be fatal or cause serious infections such as menengitis.

During her pregnancy with Henry, Annie was diagnosed as a carrier; this was not harmful to Annie but there was a chance it could have been passed to Henry. Fortunately we knew about it and the hospital gave Annie antibiotics during labour which prevented the infection being passed.

Here in the UK we do not routinely test for GBS meaning thousands of women each year are unaware of the risks and thousands of babies each year are being infected. http://www.gbss.org.uk/ are a fantastic charity who do a lot of work raising awareness and fighting for a routine test to be introduced into our health service.
