My Daughter Hope was born at 26 weeks weighing 1lb 2oz. She was born with nystagmus which means her eyes wobble constantly and cause reduced vision. At 2 months old she had laser eye surgery for Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP). After this surgery her eyes have continued to grow and she is severely short sighted. Alongside her visual impairment, Hope has shortened muscles in her legs, a phasic stammer, learning disabilities and social, emotional & sensory needs.

In October 2021, we were made aware of Useful Vision.
Useful Vision is a registered charity which helps visually impaired children and their families in the North East get the most out of life and gives them the help they need to flourish. They organise imaginative family events, skills workshops and give family support and information services. They provide accessible, positive opportunities and activities to visually impaired children and their families.
As a family we have attended lots of fantastic events, visited new places, made new friends and learnt new skills.
Hope has since gained lots of confidence, self esteem and doesn't feel as socially isolated.

I have always wanted to participate in the Great North Run and it makes it even more special to be able to give something back to Useful Vision for the great work they do.
