Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. Hopefully you know a bit about the Eilidh Brown Memorial Fund already, if not the column to the right of this outlines in more detail.

The Eilidh Brown Memorial Fund has been set up by her family to make Eilidh's wish, of helping others in her situation, come true. The aim of the Memorial Fund is to build and maintain a respite holiday home in the Stirling area for young people and their families who are in treatment for or recovering from cancer. Before Eilidh passed away, the family took a holiday to Calum's Cabin on the Isle of Bute, it was their last holiday together. Eilidh wanted other families to have the opportunity to do this too. We need your support to make her wish come true.

The Challenge:

I like a beer. I am a social / weekend drinker. I rarely if ever drink in the house / during the week and probably drink around 40 weekends of the year, at lets say an average of 20 pints of Guinness per weekend, thats around 800 pints per year.

The Challenge is to "give up beer for a year" (and spirits / wine, etc.) One year without beer will be good for my health and my bank balance, but the main challenge will be to say no to peer pressure.

The rules:

a. Starts on 1st July 2012 - 30th June 2013.

b. There will be 5 Wild Cards allowed to take in to consideration Weddings & planned Weekends away. These are as follows:

1. Wedding on 4th August - T'was a pleasant evening with some fancy dancin'.

2. Wedding on 8th September - Messi. Not missing the hangovers!

3. Oslo Half Marathon 22nd September (and probably the 23rd) Both nights were tame.

4. Jock Paddy Rugby Trip to Ireland on 22nd - 25th February (The 3 nights is one long Wild Card!).

5. St. Patrick's Day 17th March.

c. I will sponsor myself £100 per month.

d. If I buckle to peer pressure and have a beer outside of the above dates, those involved have to club together and donate £50 immediately. I will match the £50 as a punishment.

So not quite giving up beer for a year, but I hope you will agree, still a fair challenge?

#I did break on two occasions: On the 8th of April and on the 15th of June and paid the fine each time. Extra income generated on top of this £100 was a further £170.

Why chose this as a challenge, over another Marathon?

I lose too many days per year with a hangover. Those of my vintage will know, that hangovers don't get easier as you get older. I can vouch for this as I am writing the day after my first Wild Card and today is a write off!

But the main reason, isn't the personal challenge, the main reason it is to help Gordon and Family make Eilidh's wish come true.

So please dig deep and donate now <3
