** Race Day Update**
Just didn't happen. Made some mistakes with changing the flip-flops and for whatever reason it wasn't meant to be (despite being capable of it.)
Thank you to everyone that has donated,(you still can!) to everyone that wished me well around the course. This isn't the end.
I'm running the Great North Run this year. What's so special about that I hear you ask? Well this year I'm running it in flip-flops (but you did that last year!) Yes I did inadvertently run in flip-flops after leaving my trainers in the baggage tent. I ran a rather respectable 1:42 in flip-flops and fancy dress. This year I'm ditching the fancy dress and trying to go under 90mins for the world record (half marathon in flip-flops.)
So why am I telling you this? Well it would be a shame not to raise money whilst doing this. Not a lot of you will know that I volunteer for the Coastguard (I never mention it). What a lot you really won't know is my reason for doing so. I lost my brother Mark at Tynemouth. Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade were massively involved in the search for him. So I'd like to say thanks to them and raise them a little bit of cash as they're a charity, unlike the coastguard.
TVLB, based from our Watch House Museum in Tynemouth, operate a coastal rescue team covering the North Tyneside area, as well at the tidal reaches of the River Tyne. We rely entirely on voluntary donations to ensure our team of volunteers have access to high quality equipment and training – allowing them to provide a fast and efficient response to a wide range of incidents. Our free-to-visit museum chronicles the areas rich history of maritime rescue, and acts as our basis for our outreach work focused on water and sea safety awareness.
