During a recent trip to Ghana, I saw for myself how hard the Ghana National Fire Service personnel work to protect their communities – though they have limited access to PPE such as fire-proof tunics, trousers, helmets and boots.

Watching a video of personnel from the GNFS turning up to a major fire incident in a taxi, carrying fire extinguishers broke my heart. I wanted to help and am fundraising to send essential Firefighter"s equipment from HIWFRS to Ghana – with the help of FireAid.

I completed a 10mile run each day for 7 days to make the total distance of 70 miles around the coastal path of Isle-of-Wight. In addition I complete 5k wearing full Fire kit at my local parkrun to raise money to cover the cost of shipping. My most challenging one yet is to attempt the Great South Run  on the 17 Oct 21 in full Firefighter's gear. 

FIRE AID donates decommissioned but still perfectly useable fire and rescue equipment alongside professional training to fire fighters in desperate need, saving this valuable equipment from scrap and giving it new lease of life and purpose by saving more lives and protecting firefighters.
