Oh hey there,
Good to see you, you're looking well
So I'm off to Mozambique in July to volunteer with a charity called SERVE, (they spell it in capitals so I presume to pronounce it correctly you have to shout it) They are an Irish based development and volunteering organisation committed to tackling poverty in the developing world.
SERVE (sorry for shouting again) have partnered up with Young Africa in Mozambique, - an organisation committed to transforming the lives of 500,000 young people by the year 2025, through education, skills training and entrepreneurship training. They have a site on the outskirts of Beira, which offers education to the local community, as well as running a hostel program for orphan girls.
Our job as Volunteers, will be to help with construction and refurbishment projects around the site. We'll be involved in doing a bit of building, construction, painting classrooms, making desks and the likes as well as getting involved with some of the teaching and running after school workshops. But Stranney, are you even any good at building and stuff? Well tbc, but I did once build an Ikea wardrobe without any instructions and I've reached level 3 on the wheelbarrow.
They're a great charity, because they don't focus on quick fixes but rather focus on bringing about long term sustainable development that makes a genuine, lasting impact to the people living in impoverished communities. Donations will directly support the project which aims to empower young people in Mozambique to live with independence and dignity, you get me.
