Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I have two pages for this event. This page is raising money for Mind - Carlisle and Eden Branch.
Thank you.
2020 was not the start of a new decade anyone wanted. It was a difficult year for many people throughout the UK and beyond. The mixture of circumstances caused by the COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in hardship and stress for a large number of people, through worry about health, dealing with the loss of loved ones before their time or lack of certainty around employment; or even loss of it completely. There has also been a number of people who have had to get through successive lockdowns on their own. This period of our lives has challenged our mental health to varying degrees; a subject that is only just shaking off its taboo status to be talked about amongst family and friends.
Charities such as Mind provide the essential support services to those suffering with their issues, big or small, providing a safe space to talk whilst campaigning for better provision for mental health support.
This is why in 2021, I am taking on a challenge to help raise some money for the charity Mind, whilst also helping my own state of mind by working towards a challenging goal and spending more time in the outdoors.
In the last week of September, I am going to undertake a challenging journey by walking the Cumbria Way. The 112km route starts in Ulverston and makes its way through the Lake District to finish in Carlisle City Centre. To make this journey more of a challenge, I will be carrying everything on my back, making the journey self sufficient over the 5 days of hiking. No shops and no pubs meals. All my gear and food will be carried the length of the journey. To add another level of difficulty to the challenge, I will also be undertaking the journey on my own – and as an extravert who gains energy and comfort from the company of others – that will be really tough for me.
If you are able to support this challenge in any way possible, it would be greatly appreciated and provide the much needed motivation to train and get to the finish line. Every penny donated will go towards the services that Mind provide, helping to make a difference and help those in need of support.
1 in 4 people experience a mental health problem every year. Together by supporting, we are part of the solution.
I will keep this page updated with my progress as training and preparation begins. I look forward to sharing this challenge with you.
Thank you for your support.
