Story

Fiona MacDonald (1965 - 2021)

Following Mum’s recent and sudden passing the family would like to raise some money for a charity which was close to her heart; Hope2Sleep.

Mum battled bravely for over 20 years against an incurable and progressive lung disease, to the point where she was always able to make such a serious condition part of her “normal” life. Very few people know the obstacles and setbacks she suffered from and faced with constant courage on a daily basis.

She required a constant flow of oxygen to keep her alive. This came in the form of a large concentrator machine at home and a smaller, portable machine which allowed her to get out of the house and enjoy slowly wandering about town or going out for lunch. Over the last 5/6 years Mum required a separate machine at nights, as her condition had worsened. This machine was very invasive and required a full face mask to be worn every night, administering a strong, constant flow of oxygen to ensure her lungs filled and emptied. As a result of this, sleep and the idea of nighttime routine became much more difficult for her.

The charity Hope2Sleep has a very strong online community which Mum played an active role in. She chatted to, gave advice and tips, and received so much support from others who faced similar difficulties.

These conversations happened at all hours of the day and night, and we know that this support network was hugely important to Mum.

We would appreciate any donation to this great cause so future support can be provided for those who currently face the same challenges that Mum bravely fought for so long.
