Blesma, The Limbless Veterans helps all serving and ex-Service men and women who have lost limbs, or lost the use of limbs or eyes, to rebuild their lives by providing rehabilitation activities and welfare support.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. As many people know my life was changed forever on the 6th of Sept 2006 when I stood on an anti personnel mine in Kajaki, Helmand province, Afghanistan, and I lost my left leg above the knee. I also received numerous injuries to my remaining right leg when a number of other mines detonated near to me. Although I have a great prosthetic limb on my left leg, it's really the injuries to my right leg that have restricted what I can and can't do, such as running, this is why I shall walk the London marathon and hope to complete it within the 8 hours that I've been informed the finish line stays open for.

I am doing this for the charity, BLESMA (British Limbless Ex Servicemen's Association) , which has given me the opportunity of taking part in numerous rehabilitation events including, mono skiing in Colorado, skydiving in California &, more recently, visit the beautiful country of South Africa.

Unless you are a BLESMA member or you know a BLESMA member, it is unlikely that you will have heard of the charity, but it got national status in 1932 after WW1. After the Great War nearly 18,000 Military charities were set up, of which, only 10 of these charities still exist today. BLESMA being one.
