Derian House Children's Hospice provides specialist care and respite to children and young people with life-limiting or life-shortening conditions. We cover the South of Cumbria, the entire of Lancashire and the North of Manchester. To provide our services in 2024 the cost to us stands at over £6m.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Before Christmas (probably after a bottle or two of wine), Su & I decided to take on a challenge. We have always enjoyed the odd occasion when we have been able to climb one of the peaks in the Lake District so what better challenge than to complete the National 3 Peaks. On June 11th we will be climbing Ben Nevis (Scotland's highest peak), on June 12th it will be the turn of Scafell Pike (England's highest peak), and finally on June 13th we will climb (not by train however tempting it may be!!) Snowdon (the highest peak in Wales). This will also mean driving 900 miles (about 18 hours behind the wheel) to complete the challenge.

In an attempt to make sure we complete the task in hand, and to make sure than there is a beneficiary of our endeavors, we felt that it would be a great idea to do the event for charity.

With Suzanne working in the NHS and myself having worked closely with many hospices throughout the Northwest we know how much hospices rely on public donations to be able to deliver such high standards of care. We have been blessed with two beautiful and, most importantly, healthy girls. We can only imagine what parents go through when their child is diagnosed with a terminal illness. Derian House Children's Hospice provides help to such families when they need it most but requires almost £3 million of public donations to provide such care. We hope that our efforts in June can help Derian House continue to do their great work.
