Pain is temporary; quitting lasts for ever.
Hi, my name is Stu Wilde and I plan to cycle from Land's End to John o' Groats (884 miles) or (1422.66 km) in 7 days. Cycling begins 0600 Tues 4th Aug.
Ill be using a Marin Mountain Bike (pick inside album) and will carry a sleeping bag, map, liquids, lots of snacks and something to keep me going.
Why am I doing this? First, its a personal goal - something I really want to achieve. Second, it presents an opportunity to raise money for charity (something I have never done before). So, I've decided to raise as much as this event will allow for the Army Benevolent Fund (ABF). Within this page, I have set a target of 5k (a bit ambitious I know); but whatever the end state is every penny you donate will be gratefully received and will go to an extremely worthy cause!
My route is as follows:
Day 1: Lands End - Crediton (124 miles) or (199.5 km)
Day 2: Crediton - Moreton-in-Marsh (136 miles) or (218.8 km)
Day 3: Moreton-in-Marsh - Bawtry (117 miles) or (188.2 km)
Day 4: Bawtry - Hexham (134 miles) or (215.65 km)
Day 5: Hexham - Auchterarder (133 miles) or (214. km)
Day 6: Auchterarder - Inverness (123 miles) or (197.9 km)
Day 7: Inverness - John o' Groats (117 miles) or (188.2 km)
Day 8: Spare (extra time if required)
What is the ABF? The ABF is the Soldiers' Charity. Since the end of the Second World War the fund has given financial support and practical advice to soldiers, former soldiers and their families in times of need. The fund must raise around 7 million each year to continue its vital work. "..........with an exponential growth in cases expected, the ABF's need for public financial support is greater than ever before".
Using this web page, you can place donations through "JustGiving". It's simple, fast and secure. When using this software, pse be patient as it does not always work first time. Donations received are sent direct to ABF; Gift Aid will be reclaimed from all donations placed by UK taxpayers.
What is Gift Aid? Using Gift Aid means for every pound a sponsor donates, the ABF receives an extra 28 pence from HM Revenue and Custom, helping the donation to go further. Provided sponsors are UK Taxpayers, Gift Aid allows the charity to reclaim the basic rate of income tax they have paid on their donations and it does not cost them a thing!
Please circulate the link to this page as far/wide as possible - to your friends, your friends friends, your friends friends friends, your friends, friends, friends, friends............your friends, friends, friends, friends, friends. Ok - I think you get the message! This is very much a team effort; you fundraising/advertising and I, well I get to do the best bit - some fizz (ok for me the fizz = lots)! You may want to re-visit this site to see how we are all progressing. Right, action speaks louder than words - you need to get raising and I need to get fizzing. So, lets see how much we can all achieve together for our soldiers, former soldiers and their families.
Thank you and good luck!
PS. I don't expect your donations to be as large as mine; your little bits will help! But that said, if you want to show off and give large - be my guest!
