Last week £620 off line - £100 from Sarah Whitehouse and £20 from Tom and Eleanor Stanier and £500 from my nephew Tom Murray. Thanks for your kind support. This continues to be a highly successful ventire which wil do much to help our charity.
We made it. Poor Sue had a diversion to Wick A and E after a fall from her bike. She has an elbow injury. She was so close to the end. In any case we all did far more than 1100 miles taking scenic routes and getting occasionally a little lost. We are a good team and we made it together. We have loved doing this for Cure Parkinson's.
SEE THE PHOTOS ON THIS WEBSITE. PLEASE CONTINUE GIVING. WE HAVE A LOT TO RAISE. This is a wonderful charity.
The Team
Stella Houlder has three friends with Parkinson's. Each of them refer to their afflictions in a self-deprecating and humourous way. She holds them all in the highest regard, and she is pleased to be the support driver for these four foolhardy cyclists. It should be one of the experiences of a lifetime.
Bruce Houlder is 65, has been married to Stella for 39 years. He is the oldest of the cycling team but probably the least experienced. He is a QC and part time judge. He is now celebrating his 66th year by cycling for Cure Parkinson's. He was encouraged to do this by Phil who has a habit of getting him to do dangerous things (see skydive photo). Its time to get fit and live a little more. He is grateful that Sue is coming as she is a doctor! Stella and Bruce have two daughters, and are grandparents.
Sue Cooper is a GP working in Bath. She is reasonably fit and active although she have never done anything like this before and she says it will be a huge personal challenge for her. She has 3 boys, two of whom are very keen cyclists, travelling very long distances on their bikes. Tom the youngest did LEJOG on a tandem last summer to raise money for an orphanage in India. Her father was a keen cyclist, climber and walker and he unfortunately suffered from Parkinson's disease for 20 years.
Phil McEvoy is 57 years of age and a former Army Officer. He has been very fortunate to have taken part in many challenges but they all now seem a very long time ago. He is looking forward to this challenge and sharing this experience with Bruce Gareth and Sue –Ed by England footy result for an eve and very relieved and grateful that Stella is providing support. He says that he is sure the added responsibility of raising money to help find a cure for Parkinson's will keep him going .
Gareth Furby has been cycling around London for many years as well as rowing - the picture is of him in the winning crew for the Great River Race which was a 26 mile marathon on the River Thames. For this challenge, Gareth is using his London commuter bike which has only a single rear cog. He expects to spend much of the time standing up. Gareth also plans to sleep in the van!
