Muslims are obliged to pay Zakat al-Fitr (Fitrana) to the poor during the month of Ramadan, regardless of age, status or wealth. It is a way for Muslims to give thanks that they were able to complete the month of fasting.

The payment, which is only £5 this year, must be paid well before Eid is upon us, so that those in need can be provided with food and clothes to celebrate the festival.

A man once came to the Messenger of Allah, (peace be upon him),
and complained that he feels hardness in his heart.

The Messenger of Allah said, what translated means,

"Would you like that your heart becomes soft and that you acquire what you need?

Be merciful with the orphan, pat his head and feed him from what you eat.

This will soften your heart, and enable you to get what you need."

I encourage you to donate your Fitrana and Fidiya in advance of Eid so that it can help feed the poor and needy people in time for Eid.
